A Little Less Here, A Little More There

Fullerton, CA, Fat Transfer at The Aesthetic Plan

Let’s be honest. Fat gets a bad rap. However, properly distributed body fat is, in many ways, the foundation of human beauty and health. Fortunately, fat is now “mobile.”

What could be more natural and logical than redistributing and re-deploying your own body fat to improve and enhance your body contours? The medical technique is called fat transfer. The experts are at The Aesthetic Plan. We invite you to schedule a consultation with The Aesthetic Plan. Under the vision of Dr. Ted Y. Fisher, The Aesthetic Plan is now acknowledged as Fullerton’s top aesthetic medicine practice.

What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves transferring excess fat from one body area to another to enhance its appearance. This minimally invasive procedure is done by using liposuction to remove fat from a donor area, such as the abdomen, lateral torso, or thighs, and injecting it into an area that needs additional volume or contouring, such as the face, breasts, or buttocks. Fat transfer is a versatile and effective cosmetic surgery that can be used to augment and reshape various areas of the body, like the cheeks, lips, chin, breasts, buttocks, and hands. It produces natural-looking, long-lasting results with minimal risks or side effects. The procedure has gained popularity in recent years due to its effectiveness and quick recovery time.

Safe, Effective, and Long Lasting

What are the benefits of fat transfer?

Simply put, fat transfer is a safe and durable way to add contour to selected areas, producing natural-looking results. Fat transfer can also improve the quality and appearance of your overlying skin.

Since fat transfer uses your own cells, the risks of an allergic reaction to your procedure are greatly reduced as opposed to other treatment options.

A fat transfer can enhance volume and reduce creases in multiple facial areas. The mid-face can look lifted without surgery, and transplanted fat can plump lips. Fat transfer can also address sunken under-eye areas, scars, wrinkles, and more. Dr. Fisher will tailor a unique treatment plan to meet your aesthetic goals.

It Starts With a Conversation.

Your Fat Transfer Consultation

After thoroughly listening to your goals and aspirations, Dr. Fisher will designate the body areas where you wish to remove excess fat and transplant it into areas where more fat is desirable. If you are considering a fat transfer to your breasts, ask about including an internal mesh bra in your procedure. This innovation is a mesh surgical implant that helps support the placement of fat cells transferred to your breasts. This mesh “bra” is made of a material that, over a period of one to two years, is safely reabsorbed by your body.

Let’s Do the “Two Step.”

Your Fat Transfer Procedure

The procedure produces a double bonus because it improves the areas where excess fat is removed and the areas where it is injected.

It is also a two-step surgery since it involves both your donor and recipient sites. First, your donor site fat will be harvested using liposuction. Donor site options usually include the abdomen, lateral torso, or thighs. After your harvested fat cells are processed through centrifuging and filtering, they are then injected into your treatment area.

Fat transfer is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. The surgery is usually done using local anesthesia, although general anesthesia may be recommended in some cases. Depending on the size and location of your treatment area, the procedure can take one to four hours.

Your Fat Transfer Results

Your transferred fat cells will take root in their new location and develop their own blood supply, becoming a permanent “filler” in your treatment area. But be patient. It may take six months or more to realize full and final results.

Fat Transfer Recovery and Aftercare

Regardless of your fat transfer treatment, you will have post-procedure swelling, bruising, and soreness in both your donor and recipient areas. However, these symptoms are entirely typical and will subside quickly.

In some cases, your doctor may direct you to wear a compression garment to aid in healing. Most patients can return to work and regular activities one to two weeks after their procedure. We will provide detailed, written recovery and aftercare instructions to enhance healing and comfort and maximize results.

Fat Transfer Frequently Asked Questions

While fat transfer procedures to improve facial contour (including lips and the areas just under your eyes) are very popular and common, remember that this technique can also treat your:

  • Breasts
  • Nipples
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Hands
  • Face
  • Neck
  • Lips
  • Feet

Ideal candidates for fat transfer are in good general health, close to their ideal weight, don’t smoke or can quit smoking, and have sufficient body fat to enable the procedure.

Most fat transfer procedures take about six months, but the wait will be very much worth it!

In many cases, the results are permanent. However, this procedure will not prevent future symptoms of aging.

Because about 30-40 percent of your injected fat cells may be reabsorbed by your body, a second fat transfer procedure may, in some cases, be recommended at least six months after your initial treatment.

Dermal fillers are also used to plump and contour selected body areas. But the results from a fat transfer procedure are generally more natural-looking since the procedure uses your own cells.

Not at all! Because remember again, this procedure uses your own body tissues.

Fat transfer is not a weight loss procedure.

Since fat transfer is considered a cosmetic procedure, insurance will not pay for it.

Yes, including fat grafting, fat injections, autologous fat transfer, and lipofilling.
